On Saturday, June 14, our small community gathered 1,700+ strong to show the world that we won’t take the abuse any longer from this Administration. And we were not alone, as millions across the nation thought the same.

On this day, we sat, just for a moment, under a shaded area on a warm day and listened to the crowd hum with chants, conversation, song, and cheers as the honking cars drove by, and saw contagious hugs, tears of joy and hope, smiles of camaraderie – all were present inside just a few square feet on our precious Earth.

For the No Kings event to succeed, months of planning went on behind the scenes. From every organization that tabled, to every social media message posted for more than six weeks, to every flier tacked on bulletin boards, to every email that circulated from one group to another, this team, which many of you were part of, built what we saw.

Some of us looked back at 2016 when we wondered if we would get 100 people to attend a rally about gun violence prevention or reproductive rights. As the years went on, the numbers grew, the rallies grew, the civic engagement grew, and the voices erupted. We are rising up and last Saturday was the culmination of our work!

Thank you to Tuolumne County Indivisible for taking the lead.  You are a great team of caring people!

Take Action

Stepping up may seem hard with our busy lives, but we all can make room for civic engagement a few hours each week.  Keep yourself educated. Conquer your fear of speaking in public. Conquer your fear of writing. Conquer your fear of volunteering. We need you now more than ever. Contact at least one organization this week. Don’t wait.
